SOA to microservices—continuous modernization with microservices and containers

Session Speakers
Session Description

Your company has to change and adapt or it will go out of business. Just ask Blockbuster, Kodak, Borders, and others. But what are companies doing to change and adapt? From a technology perspective, today it's microservices and cloud. Using microservices holds great potential to increase agility and reduce time to market. Then again, service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Agile programming offered many of the same promises. So, is using microservices just another hyped-up architecture approach? Or, if combined with DevOps, could it really deliver on its promise? And if so, how do we get there? In this session, we'll look at: – The practical approaches to evolving a legacy architecture (monolithic, client/server, SOA/ESB) to microservices – The cultural and organizational scaling issues that are usually at the crux of adopting agile technologies – How to work bottom-up or top-down to implement microservices In addition, we'll cover open source technologies like middleware frameworks, containers, and cluster managers that make microservices a reality beyond the "Just uber-jar everything!” misnomer.
