Daniel Riek, has been in the Open Source business since co-founding one of the first Linux startups in Europe, ID-Pro, in 1997. Between 2001 and 2003, Daniel lead the German operation for the French Open Source service start-up Alcove, providing consulting services. In 2003 Daniel joined Red Hat in the EMEA Sales & Saels Engineering organization. Between 2005 and 2011, Daniel was responsible for Product Management of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux product family. The introduction of virtualization in RHEL as well as the RHEL 5 and 6 major releases happened during this period. In 2011 Daniel left Red Hat to join Vincorex, a finance startup that was built on Open Source and Linux. After an intermediate position at Acronis a storage and backup ISV, Daniel joined Red Hat again in September of 2013 to take over the Systems Design & Engineering group. In this new role, Daniel is responsible for advancing cross-product integration and aggregate solutions. One of his primary projects has been the adoption of Containerization and the Atomic Architecture.
